Celebrating 35 years of service to Wake County’s elderly!

Since 1974, Meals on Wheels has been providing nutritious meals to the homebound elderly and persons with disabilities in Wake County in an effort to improve health, reduce isolation, and prevent inappropriate institutionalization. Serving close to 1,500 meals daily to homes and nutrition centers, Meals on Wheels provides the frailest of our community’s citizens with a voice to achieve healthful independence.
Our Mission
To provide nutritious meals to the frail, homebound elderly and persons with disabilities of Wake County in order to improve health, reduce isolation and prevent inappropriate institutionalization. To serve nutritious meals and provide social and educational opportunities to persons 60 and older in congregate nutrition sites.
Each weekday:

we deliver over 1100 meals a day to our homebound clients.

we serve more than 400 meals at congregate nutrition centers.
Serving
Meals on Wheels of Wake County services are open to any senior adult over the age of 60 who lives in the county. All services have an emphasis on low-income, minority populations, and others who may be socially, economically, or physically disadvantaged. People under the age of 60 may qualify to participate in the home delivered or frozen meal programs.Participants reside throughout the entire county. More than 63% live at, or below, the poverty level. More than 1,350 people will receive meals everyday, and more than 335,000 will be served in a year. Participants are self-referred or are referred through a network of social agencies in the aging network.
Advocating
Meals on Wheels of Wake County advocates on behalf of senior adults in Wake County and provides information to participants. The agency plays an important role in representing the interests of senior adults to various stakeholders, including public and private funders. Volunteers gain a real appreciation for some of the issues facing senior adults in Wake County. Participants are informed both formally and informally about senior adult issues either in the congregate nutrition sites or through face-to-face meetings with staff.
